First Black Female to Open an Upscale Home-Decor Furniture Store





Sylvia Thomas is the first black female to open an upscale furniture store, The House of Detroit, located in Metro Detroit.


During the pandemic, Sylvia opened a luxury home décor furniture store located in Royal Oak, Michigan that has been thriving since August.

Sylvia is a young motivated entrepreneur who is 27 years old. She is the president of Get R.I.C.H. nonprofit organization that has helped provide jobs, food, and hygiene products for incarcerated inmates. She also has maintained over 10,000 foreclosures and abandoned homes in the Detroit area.


Recently, Sylvia was nominated for the Michigan Chronicle’s 40 Under Forty. 40 Under Forty recognizes local African American professionals who inspire others through their vision, leadership, exceptional achievements, and participation in community service.


These individuals exemplify extraordinary stature, poise and integrity who continue to break the mold and affect change in their professions and community.


Sylvia inspires others to pursue their goals to become successful. She is a true entrepreneur with the drive to accomplish anything she puts her mind to.
