The first preschool will be located in Des Moines, Washington where this academy will be the first to many other schools.
The Montessori style of learning is for students to somewhat guide their own learning by hands-on and collaborative work ethics. Jeff Bezos wants the child to be a ‘customer’ rather than be a ‘seller’.
Bezos’ current and future schools are built around low income areas that have exponential local organizations and businesses that understands their community.
The schools are being supported through Bezos’ nonprofit organization, Bezos Academy, which is overseen by Day 1 Academies Fund. Bezos launched Day 1 Academies Fund with the goal to obtain preschools and help low income families.
The tuition-free schools will operate year-round during the weekdays for children from 3 to5 years of age.
For the students attending the preschool, they will receive free and reduced-cost meal programs and ‘gaps’ in access to licensed childcare providers, according to Day 1 Academies Fund.
