Mistakes Were Made, Reality was Learned

At the end of my last year of college I completed a content marketing involving YouTube. This was a group project that was a knowledgeable experience. The video consisted of funny, challenging questions asked to a few of the athletes on Auburn University campus. We shot the video at a time where the Auburn basketball team was going to the Sweet Sixteen. War Eagle! Content marketing helped stimulate a platform where challenges are created in order to succeed in businesses, today. Therefore we thought it was going to be easy to get a lot of views and content that we wanted. Wrong. Managing the content turned out to be easy, the hard part was getting consumers to watch the entire video created. I learned that content marketing is more complex than originally thought of. As a group, we could have done more to get views by using paid advertisements or artificial technology.

This is what we Learned & will Utilize Next Time:

1. Social Media. There was a lot of campaigning over social media. The downfall was that social media was the only resource. If there was more personalization done then there would have been a better gravitation to the video. GroupMe and Instagram was a great source we used for most of the views received. Later on, we learned that people were likely to finish videos that have subtitles with descriptions and hashtags that will interest them.

2. Augmented Reality. With the new profound change in technology, videography is an important asset in campaigning. What we found out later was that augmented reality would have been a great strategy to enhance our video. We wanted eye catching visualization that consist of fascinating videography to captivate the intended audience and more. Implementing augmented reality in the future for content will be a great tool for 3- D technology and faster transitions of mistakes made early on where we can stimulate active exploration of the content provided at the time.

3. Paid Advertisement. Businesses have to think and react quickly to produce the creative items envisioned for new and old customers. Paid advertisements would have allowed for our audience to expand and reach different target audiences than we intended to reach out to. The saying “you have to spend money to make money,” is true. Engagement in an audience is tough for any person no matter the followers. If the audience isn’t engaged there is a lagging in the content provided for the audience. Paid advertisements will create traffic towards the intended campaign. We didn’t use paid advertisement but after doing much research and understand how it works we definitely will know next time.

After all of the hard work utilized and the lessons learned, we succeeded in many views. Viral videos definitely takes quite a lot of strategy and patience in order to succeed in the process. The commitment caused us to detour many of the ideas we had. We began using hashtags during the Sweet Sixteen of March Madness for the Auburn Tigers. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough content because the audience only watched forty percent of our video. We wanted the audience to participate with our video with the questions. Next time we will have an inviting presence to get the audience active. The outcome of the video may not have been the best but we put our all into the challenges made in order to get viewers and ways to implement and improvise strategies next time. If I could do this video over again, I would not change what I did because I learned a lot but I would use more personalization to target a wide range of audiences.
